Russia strikes Ukraine overnight: Ukrainian air defense repelling attack
Last night, the Russian Federation launched a combined air attack on Ukraine using more than 30 air attack aircraft. The air defense forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down 24 of them, including all Russian kamikaze drones and 7 missiles, according to the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
What Russia attack with
Russians launched a total of 10 missiles in Ukraine for an air attack:
- 10 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic aircraft (launch area - Saratov region in the Russian Federation),
- 3 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (launched from the occupied Crimea and the Russian Krasnodar Territory),
- 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missile (from the airspace of the Tambov region),
- 17 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs (from Yeysk).
Ukrainian air defense operation
"Fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units of the Ukrainian Air Force, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare equipment of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were involved in repelling Russia's air attack," Oleshchuk says.
According to the general, 24 Russian targets - 7 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and 17 Shaheds - were shot down over the territories of 6 regions, namely:
- Khmelnytskyi
- Kharkiv
- Mykolaiv
- Odesa
- Zaporizhzhia
- Dnipropetrovsk
Russian air attack on Ukraine on June 14
On Wednesday evening, an air alert was declared in several regions of Ukraine due to Shahed-type attack drones launched by the Russian occupiers for another attack on Ukraine.
On the night of Thursday, June 14, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the takeoff of Tu-22M3 and Tu-95 MS strategic bombers in Russia. Later, a large-scale air alert was announced in Ukraine after cruise missiles were launched from Russian aircraft.
On the night of May 14, explosions were reported in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, as well as in the Khmelnytskyi region. In the latter, Russia, in particular, attacked the city of Starokostiantyniv with Shaheds.
Poland and its neighboring countries sent military aircraft into the air that night because of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
In the morning, Ukraine again announced an air alert across the country. It also became known that an explosion was heard in Kyiv. And also about new explosions in the Khmelnytsky region.
