Russian forces struck the Orikhiv stele — one of the symbols of the Zaporizhzhia region, according to a Telegram post by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov.
The head of the regional military administration noted that just the day before, dozens of flags of Ukrainian military units, volunteer organizations, and the region’s partners had been installed here.

Aftermath of the attack
Following the attack, only destruction remained at the symbolic site. According to Fedorov, this is a typical consequence of attack— damage to infrastructure and the devastation of areas affected by strikes.
Symbol that retains its meaning
Despite the destruction, the Orikhiv stele continues to stand as a symbol of resilience. Authorities emphasize that residents of the Zaporizhzhia region remain steadfast even under constant attacks.
Restoration has already begun
The regional administration stated that all damaged elements will be restored and the missing flags will be returned to their place. Restoration work is already underway.
Additionally, it was noted that Russian forces have been tasked with advancing toward Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region and taking positions on the approaches to the city.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the strengthening of Russian air defenses around Moscow leads to weaker protection in other regions of the country, which he said creates additional opportunities for Ukrainian long-range strikes.
Ukrainian pilots are being trained on F-16 aircraft, with a focus on new tactics, including flying under conditions of disrupted GPS signals due to active electronic warfare.
