On the evening of August 31, 2024, Russia launched a missile strike on the territory of one of the communities in the Sumy district, according to the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA).

The explosion damaged cargo grain trucks that were supposed to be used for harvesting and transporting crops.

"As a result of the missile strike, one person was killed and four others were injured. The injured are receiving all necessary medical assistance," the RMA reported.

Earlier in the evening of August 31, an explosion was heard in the city of Sumy. The military had warned of the ballistic threat.

On August 30, Russian forces, likely using a guided aerial bomb, attacked a facility producing packaging for baby food and juices in Sumy, causing a fire.

Later, the prosecutor’s office reported that nine people were injured due to the shelling of Sumy.

Subsequently, information emerged about the first fatality from the airstrike on Sumy. A 48-year-old woman died in the hospital.

Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov stated that the Biden administration is still reviewing his request to lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory.
