On Friday, April 5, Russian troops shelled Kherson with artillery. One of the shells hit the yard of an apartment building. Two people were wounded, according to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, on April 5, at about 8:10 a.m., the Russian occupation forces fired artillery at Kherson.

"The occupiers' shell hit the yard of an apartment building. As a result, the residents found themselves in a blocked entrance," the statement says.

In particular, two people sustained injuries of varying degrees.

"At the time of the enemy attack, the man was in the apartment, and the woman was outside," the Prosecutor's Office adds.

In addition, residential buildings and vehicles were damaged.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kherson District Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in criminal proceedings over the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Russian shelling of Kherson

Russian troops have been shelling Kherson and the right bank of the Kherson region even after the Ukrainian Defense Forces regained control of these settlements in the fall of 2022 after the complete seizure of the region by Russia in February 2022.

For example, in late February, the Russian military hit a cargo ship while shelling Kherson. A farm and an elevator were also damaged.

In addition, Russian troops shelled the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson in early January. The attack caused a warehouse with humanitarian supplies to catch fire, and four people were injured.

On December 26, 2023, the Russian occupiers shelled the railway station in Kherson. A 29-year-old police officer from the Kirovohrad region was killed. In addition, two police officers of the Kherson region and two civilians were injured.
