Russia strikes gas tanker with drone in Chernihiv region: Three dead, including child
On Thursday afternoon, September 3, the Russian army struck the Chernihiv region. Three people are reported dead, including a 6-year-old child, according to the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration.
According to preliminary reports, the Russian forces attacked the border area of the Koriukivka district. They hit a car with a drone that was delivering liquefied gas to people. As a result of the strike, the gas cylinders detonated, and residential buildings caught fire.
Three people are already reported dead, including a 6-year-old child. Four people were also injured—a 4-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl, and two men. They were hospitalized.
The two children have been stabilized and transferred to the Chernihiv Regional Children's Hospital. Their condition is critical.
Occupation of the Chernihiv region
Russian forces invaded the Chernihiv region at the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. Chernihiv became one of the first cities to suffer heavy shelling and attacks by Russian forces. Despite the city not being fully occupied, the region experienced significant infrastructure damage, and Russian troops held control over parts of the region for a prolonged period.
Although Russian forces have left the area, the region continues to endure shelling and air attacks due to its proximity to the Russian border.
In August, the Russian army launched strikes on the city of Bakhmach in the Chernihiv region, targeting civilian infrastructure.
