Russia strikes blocked ships in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region, killing one

On the night of July 26–27, Russia launched an attack on civilian merchant ships in ports in the Mykolaiv region. The initial consequences of the Russian strikes are already known, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
This time, the Russian strikes targeted vessels that had been blocked in Ukrainian ports since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
During this entire period, they had not undertaken any commercial voyages.
"Russian attack resulted in one fatality and several injuries. We express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased," the statement reads.
The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority emphasizes that this was a new, deliberate Russian attack on civilian shipping and port infrastructure.
"Attacks on ships that have been unable to leave the blockaded ports for years once again demonstrate the systematic nature of Russian terror against the maritime industry and pose a direct threat to the lives of civilian seafarers," the state-owned enterprise notes.
The documentation of Russian crimes and their consequences is currently underway.
Against this backdrop, Ukraine has once again called on its allies to respond decisively to Russia’s strikes against the civilian merchant fleet.
Ships have stopped calling at Ukrainian ports. The Minister of Agrarian Policy explained whether there is a threat of a total blockade.
