The Russians have adapted the Molniya FPV drone for aerial reconnaissance by installing a Starlink system and a camera with 3-axis stabilization, according to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR).

Earlier, HUR reported on Russia's use of the Molniya aircraft-type FPV kamikaze, which was launched from a special catapult and guided to the target by an operator.

Subsequently, Russia began to use a modification of Molniya-2 with two engines on the wings, a redesigned fuselage, increased flight range, and a reinforced warhead.

Currently, a new adaptation of this UAV has been recorded – Molniya-2R, designed for aerial reconnaissance. To this end, Russian developers integrated a Raspberry Pi 5 microcomputer into the device, as well as a Chinese Mini PC F8, branded by the Russian brand Raskat, with a licensed Windows 11 operating system installed.

In addition to the FPV camera, the drone has been equipped with an additional Chinese SIYI ZR10 camera with 10x optical zoom and three-axis stabilization, which significantly expands its surveillance and correction capabilities.

A Starlink satellite terminal is installed on board the Molniya-2R to transmit video signals from both cameras, telemetry, and control commands.

HUR reveals design of Russian drones

Earlier, HUR reported on 68 new components found in Russian missiles and drones used to attack energy facilities.

The Russian turbojet Shahed contains components from the US, China, Switzerland, and other countries.

In addition, HUR experts revealed the structure, components, and element base of the Iranian Shahed-107 drone, which Russia is using in the war against Ukraine.
