The violation of Lithuania's airspace by a Russian drone is evidence that Moscow is now extending its aggression to NATO territory, according to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys on Twitter (X).

He reminded that in less than a month, Russian attack drones violated Lithuania’s airspace twice. Other NATO allies have also reported similar breaches.

"These repeated incidents represent an alarming sign of the spillover of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine onto NATO territory," the foreign minister noted.

According to him, Lithuania cannot compromise on matters of security. It is essential to remain vigilant as the threat continues to grow.

"Today, with Defence Minister Dovilė Šakalienė, we issued a joint letter to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, calling for immediate measures to enhance air defence capabilities in Lithuania and accelerate the full implementation of the rotational air defence model," he stated.

Budrys emphasized that the defense of NATO’s eastern flank must remain the Alliance’s top priority.

Drone incident

On July 28, a Russian attack drone resembling a Shahed was spotted over Lithuania. The incident occurred on the same night that Russia launched drone attacks against Ukraine.

On Friday, August 1, another Russian drone was discovered at a training ground in Lithuania. The unmanned aerial vehicle had entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarusian territory.
