Enemy airstrikes hit Zaporizhzhia region on the evening of December 31, 2024. As a result of the Russian attack, civilian infrastructure was damaged, and fires broke out in residential buildings, reports the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov.

"As a result of the enemy attack, several private homes are on fire in one of the settlements in the region," the official reported in the early hours of January 1, 2025.

The head of the regional military administration added that emergency services had rescued a woman.

"Emergency services are working at the scene," Fedorov said.

It should be noted that earlier in the Zaporizhzhia region, explosions were heard around 22:20 Kyiv time on the evening of December 31. Local authorities later confirmed that they were related to the activation of air defense systems in response to a Russian attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia using Shahed drones.

By around 11:30 p.m., Kyiv time, the head of the regional military administration reported that no information had been received about casualties. He also urged residents to seek shelter, as the enemy's airstrike was ongoing.

The air alert for the Zaporizhzhia region was lifted at 00:41 Kyiv time.

Shelling of Zaporizhzhia

The city of Zaporizhzhia, like other settlements in Ukraine near the front line, frequently comes under Russian strikes. The Russian forces use guided bombs, missiles of various types, and drones for shelling.

For instance, on December 26, 2024, an explosion occurred in Zaporizhzhia as a result of a Russian missile strike.

Earlier, on December 20, the Russian army attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones. The shelling resulted in four people being injured. A fire broke out in the city following the enemy's attack.

On December 10, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the center of Zaporizhzhia, hitting a private hospital. The building was destroyed, and nearby structures were damaged. An emergency rescue operation was underway in the city. According to the latest reports, seven people were killed, and 22 others were injured in the missile attack.

Additionally, on the evening of December 6, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on Zaporizhzhia, causing a fire at a car service station. There were casualties and injuries. The shelling resulted in 10 people losing their lives.
