Ukrainian defenders eliminated another 1,300 Russian invaders over the day, bringing the total losses of the Russian army in personnel since the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine to about 478,730 soldiers. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed 11 tanks, 35 armored personnel carriers, and 23 artillery systems, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to May 9, 2024, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 478730 (+1300) troops were killed;
  • tanks - 7429 (+11) units;
  • armored personnel carriers - 14281 (+35) units;
  • artillery systems - 12340 (+23) units;
  • MLRS - 1058 (+1) units;
  • air defense systems - 793 (+1) units;
  • airplanes - 349 units;
  • helicopters - 325 units;
  • UAVs of operational and tactical level - 9775 (+47) units;
  • cruise missiles - 2192 (+41) units;
  • ships/boats - 26 units;
  • submarines - 1 unit;
  • motor vehicles and tankers - 16618 (+69) units;
  • special equipment - 2027 (+8) units.

Situation at front

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in its morning report on May 9 that 146 combat engagements took place at the front over the past day. The military command notes that the Russian occupiers had increased the number of attacks in almost all directions.

The General Staff also reported that during the day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and units of the missile forces struck 3 Russian air defense systems, 2 artillery systems, 10 areas of concentration of personnel, and 1 other important Russian object.
