The Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated another 1,200 Russian soldiers over the past 24 hours, as well as destroyed 2 tanks, 10 troop-carrying AFVs, 50 artillery systems, and 1 anti-aircraft system, according to the Facebook page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to May 8, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 961,970 (+1,200) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 10,782 (+2);
  • troop-carrying AFVs - 22,429 (+10);
  • artillery systems - 27,552 (+50);
  • MLRS - 1,379 (+1);
  • anti-aircraft systems - 1,156 (+1);
  • aircraft - 372;
  • helicopters - 335 units;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 35,407 (+141);
  • cruise missiles - 3,197;
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 47,604 (+120);
  • special equipment - 3,875 (+2)

Frontline situation

In the evening update on May 7, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed that 139 battles had taken place on the front line since the start of the day.

The military command also stated that the highest number of enemy assaults and attacks was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction.

Additionally, in the report released on May 8 by the experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), detailing the operational situation in Ukraine and Russia, it was mentioned that Ukrainian defenders had likely advanced in the Kursk region. At the same time, Russian forces were observed making progress near Vovchansk, Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, Novopavlivka, and Velyka Novosilka
