Frontline situation

Russia’s military leadership has reportedly promised Vladimir Putin that Moscow can capture the entire Donbas by fall, claiming Ukrainian forces are exhausted and the front line is weakening, the Financial Times reports. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Putin plans to use potential gains in eastern Ukraine to strengthen Russia’s position in future negotiations and push for broader territorial demands. However, analysts and officials cited by the FT say a major Russian breakthrough remains unlikely as Ukraine continues striking Russian logistics and rear positions.

Ukraine’s forces are not planning to leave Pokrovsk and continue holding positions in the city, a Defense Forces source told RBC-Ukraine. The situation in nearby Myrnohrad is more difficult, however, and a controlled withdrawal remains possible amid intense fighting and logistical challenges.
