Russia's losses in Ukraine as of March 22: +1,200 troops and about 101 artillery systems

Over the past day, from March 21 to 22, the Russian army lost 1,210 soldiers and 294 pieces of equipment in the war against Ukraine, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to March 22, 2025, are estimated to be:
- personnel - about 902,010 (+1,210) Russian troops were eliminated;
- tanks - 10,403 (+9);
- troop-carrying AFVs - 21,609 (+20);
- artillery systems - 24,944 (+96);
- MLRS - 1,327 (+3);
- anti-aircraft systems - 1,111;
- aircraft - 370;
- helicopters - 331 units;
- UAV operational-tactical level - 30,338 (+258);
- cruise missiles - 3,121;
- warships/boats - 28;
- submarines - 1;
- vehicles and fuel tanks - 41,425 (+166);
- special equipment - 3,782.
Situation on the front lines and Russian shelling
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced in the Belgorod region, while Russian forces continued to press in the Sumy and Donetsk regions.
On the evening of March 21, Russian aviation struck the border areas of the Sumy region, causing a large fire and destroying residential buildings.
Overnight, Russian forces launched Shahed kamikaze drones against Ukraine.
In Kyiv, debris from a downed drone fell onto the roof of an apartment building, sparking a fire.
Additionally, on the evening of March 21, Russian missiles hit Zaporizhzhia, killing three people.
