Over the past day, from January 5 to January 6, Russia lost another 940 troops in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian Defense Forces also destroyed 46 artillery systems and 879 Russian drones, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to January 6, 2026, are estimated to be:

  • Personnel - approximately 1,213,460 (+940)
  • Tanks - 11,512 (+5)
  • Troop-carrying AFVs - 23,863 (+6)
  • Artillery systems - 35,831 (+46)
  • MLRS - 1,593 (+1)
  • Anti-aircraft systems - 1,269 (+1)
  • Aircraft - 434
  • Helicopters - 347
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 101,443 (+879)
  • Cruise missiles - 4,137
  • Warships/boats - 28
  • Submarines - 2
  • Vehicles and fuel tanks - 73,102 (+157)
  • Special equipment - 4,036.

Situation on frontlines

As of the evening of January 5, there were 172 combat engagements on the front lines during the day. The largest number of battles was recorded in the Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and Kostiantynivka directions. In particular, on the first day, the Ukrainian military repelled over 30 Russian attacks.

"In the Huliaipole direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 34 Russian attacks in the areas of Uspenivka, Solodke, Huliaipole, and in the direction of Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zelene, and Pryluky. Russia's air strikes hit the settlements of Zaliznychne, Rizdvianka, Ternuvate, and Vozdvyzhivka," Ukraine's General Staff reports.
