Over the past day, from January 3 to 4, Russian invaders lost 1,510 soldiers, 23 artillery systems, and a helicopter in the war against Ukraine, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to January 4, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 794,760 (+1,510) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 9,679 (+2);
  • armored personnel vehicle - 20,093 (+23);
  • artillery systems - 21,578 (+23);
  • MLRS - 1,257;
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,032;
  • airplanes - 369;
  • helicopters - 331 (+1);
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 21,356 (+107);
  • cruise missiles - 3,006 (+3);
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 32,843 (+73);
  • special equipment - 3,675.

Situation on the frontline and Russian shelling

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces are advancing in three directions and are likely preparing an offensive toward the administrative border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Overnight, the aggressor's military attacked Ukraine again using Shahed kamikaze drones. Explosions were heard in Kyiv due to the operation of air defense systems.

On January 3, the invaders shelled Ukrainian Armed Forces' positions more than 4,000 times.
