Russia's losses in Ukraine as of December 16: +1,070 troops and 12 tanks
From December 15 to 16, the Russian army lost 1,070 soldiers, 29 armored combat vehicles, and 16 unmanned aerial vehicles on the front lines, reports the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to December 16, 2024, are estimated to be:
- personnel - about 763 510 (+1070) Russian troops were eliminated;
- tanks - 9563 (+12) units;
- armored personnel vehicle - 19 736 (+29);
- artillery systems - 21 151 (+23);
- MLRS - 1,256;
- anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,025;
- airplanes - 369;
- helicopters - 329;
- UAV operational-tactical level - 20 372 (+16) units;
- cruise missiles - 2,943;
- warships/boats - 28;
- submarines - 1;
- vehicles and tankers - 31 480 (+82);
- special equipment - 3650 (+2).
Situation on the frontlines and airstrikes
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian army achieved success on four fronts in the Donetsk region.
The Russian forces improved their attacking tactics on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions, but they are still far from achieving ideal results.
Last night, Russian forces launched a drone attack on Ukraine using Shahed kamikaze drones.
Around 7:00 a.m. Kyiv time, an air raid alert was issued in Kyiv due to the approach of strike drones towards the city.
