The Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of Russia was preparing a terrorist attack during peak hours at a hypermarket in Ukraine in an attempt to assassinate the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Vasyl Maliuk.

This was reported by the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Vasyl Maliuk, during the "Ukraine. Year 2025" Forum.

"Besides the attempt on Budanov (Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate), they planned an attack on me (Vasyl Maliuk). They had scheduled a terrorist act at a hypermarket of a French firm during peak hours, after 6 PM, when there would be many people present. Explosive devices were to detonate in areas with flammable mixtures," said Maliuk.

According to him, Ukrainian intelligence managed to act preemptively and prevent the enemy's plans.

Attempts to assassinate Ukraine's leadership

In March 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there had been more than ten assassination attempts on his life since the beginning of the full-scale war.

In April of the same year, Ukrainian and Polish intelligence agencies uncovered a Russian agent who had assisted in preparing an assassination attempt on the president during his visit to Poland.

Additionally, in May, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) revealed a network of agents preparing to kill Zelenskyy, as well as the heads of the SSU and the Main Intelligence Directorate. It was also established that the head of one of the departments of the State Guard Administration was involved.
