In the early hours of November 26, unidentified drones attacked Cheboksary in Russia’s Chuvash Republic. A local military plant was likely targeted again, according to Russian Telegram channels.

SHOT reports that the first explosion was heard around 02:40. Loud blasts were also reported on the outskirts of Cheboksary and in the sky over the village of Lapsary, located about 10 kilometers from the city.

Residents claimed the region was under attack by unknown drones, after which a fire and heavy smoke broke out in one of the city’s districts.

Meanwhile, the first footage of the drone strike on one of the facilities has appeared on social media. Online sources claim that the VNIIR military plant was hit.

The head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolayev, has already responded to the incident and confirmed the attack. According to him, there were no casualties, but an evacuation of residents is underway. He did not specify what exactly was hit.

Strikes on the military plant in Chuvashia

The VNIIR-Progress plant is located in Cheboksary and produces Kometa/Kometa-M satellite signal receivers used to counter electronic warfare.

The Kometa modules are known to be used in missiles (Kalibr, Kh-69, Iskander-M, Banderol) and UAVs (Harpia-A1, Orlan-10, Lastivka-M, Kartograf, Forpost, Orion).

If unidentified drones targeted this military plant, it would not be the first attack on it.

Earlier this summer, regional governor Oleg Nikolayev reported that two drones had crashed onto the VNIIR facility, temporarily halting production and causing a fire on-site.
