Russia reports repelling drone attack, crash of drones on buildings in Saratov and Engels
In the Saratov region, Russian Federation, this morning, August 26, air defense forces engaged drones. Reports indicate that drones have fallen into residential buildings in the cities of Saratov and Engels, report Saratov region Governor Roman Busargin and Russian Telegram channels.
A Russian official claims that the drone attack was repelled by air defense systems.
"Early this morning, air defense forces neutralized the drones. There are reports of debris landing in residential buildings in Saratov and Engels," the statement reads.
The Saratov governor added that emergency services are operating at an increased level of readiness.
Meanwhile, numerous videos have surfaced online showing drones in the sky, flying over buildings, and a drone striking the high-rise building of the Engels-City 4 residential complex in Engels. Footage also depicts a drone falling onto the Volga Sky residential complex in Saratov, as well as the aftermath of the incident.
Later, the governor of Saratov the region reported that one person was injured in Saratov, where a drone struck a building on Predmostovaia Square. The woman was hospitalized.
Explosions in Engels
Engels, located about 700 kilometers from Ukraine, houses the main base of Russian Tu-160 strategic bombers. These bombers are used by Russian forces in airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.
At the airbase officially named Engels-2, the 121st Guards Sevastopol and 184th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiments are stationed, operating Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers, respectively.
Approximately a month ago, explosions were reported at the Engels airfield in the Saratov region, home to Russian strategic aviation, following a drone attack. Sources told RBC-Ukraine that this operation was carried out by the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence.
Additionally, it was reported that explosions also occurred in Engels in April, with the Russian side complaining of a drone attack at that time.
