Russia reports blaze at Kursk NPP: What we know about possible radiation risk

A fire broke out at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, affecting a transformer unit, according to Russian Telegram channels.
Eyewitnesses reported a fire near the Kursk NPP in Kurchatov.
The transformer unit is burning. Other Russian media, citing the plant’s press service, state that the unit is not part of the nuclear facility and was only 30% loaded at the time.
Electricity supply in the city is operating normally, and there is no threat to safety.
Later, the Kursk NPP Telegram channel reported that on August 24 at 00:26 Moscow time, an air defense unit near the plant shot down a combat drone. It exploded upon impact, damaging an auxiliary transformer. The fire was extinguished, and there were no casualties.
Radiation levels at the Kursk NPP industrial site and surrounding areas remain unchanged and within natural background levels.

In the early hours of August 24, the Kursk region, along with several other regions of Russia, was targeted by unidentified drones.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 57 drones were destroyed over the territories of Bryansk, Kaluga, Smolensk, Kursk, Leningrad, Tver, Novgorod, Oryol, and Tambov regions, Moscow region, the Chuvash Republic, and the Black Sea.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that on August 23, several Russian airports suspended arrivals and departures due to attacks by unidentified drones. Rosaviatsia announced the suspension of flights at the airports of Saratov, Volgograd, Kaluga, Tambov, Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk, Kirov, Nizhnekamsk, Kazan, and even Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport.
