Russia reported record number of terrorist attacks in 2023
For the first time since 2004, the number of terrorist attacks in Russia has approached a record level for the past 20 years, reports the Verstka Telegram channel.
In 2023, there were 410 terrorist attacks in Russia.
"The Russian authorities classify actions, including those that can be interpreted as anti-war activities, as terrorist acts - such as setting fire to military enlistment offices or even attempts to do so," the channel reported.
As the channel's authors note, in the second year of Russia's war against Ukraine, the number of terrorist attacks has more than tripled.
"In 2021, the year before the war, 41 terrorist attacks were recorded in Russia, and in 2022 - already 127," wrote the channel's authors.
The record for terrorist attacks in Russia was set in 2003 when law enforcement agencies reported 561 incidents.
