Russia rejects 'peace proposals' from Trump's team, though none were official
Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has already rejected the “peace proposals” of the team of US President-elect Donald Trump, according to TASS. Although there have been no official initiatives from the United States yet.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov apparently analyzed “numerous leaks” and Donald Trump's interview with Time.
He then concluded that Trump was allegedly talking about “freezing hostilities along the line of contact” and “transferring further responsibility for confronting Russia to the Europeans.”
“Of course, we are not satisfied with the proposals made on behalf of representatives of the president-elect's team to postpone Ukraine's membership in NATO for 20 years and to send a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine,” he said.
Lavrov admitted that Moscow had not yet received any official signals from the United States regarding the war in Ukraine.
“Until January 20, the date of his inauguration, Donald Trump has the status of 'president-elect,' and all policy in all directions is determined by the current president, Joseph Biden, and his administration. And so far, only the latter is authorized to contact Russia on behalf of the United States,” he added.
The Russian foreign minister did not forget to remind that Russia was allegedly open to negotiations on Ukraine, but “the agreement must be inviolable.”
US President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly made statements about the war in Ukraine. He assured that he wanted it to end quickly. Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine within the first 24 hours of his presidency.
Trump's plan to end the war in Ukraine is only being developed, and the theses published in the media are not the official position of the Trump administration.
Lavrov's statements seem at least odd given that Putin has not even seen an official document describing Trump's real vision for ending the war in Ukraine, but has already rejected it.
