Russia rejects energy ceasefire with Ukraine

Russian president Vladimir Putin is not currently considering an energy ceasefire with Ukraine, says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Moscow's position on an energy ceasefire with Ukraine has not changed.
"Russia needs peace, not a ceasefire," Peskov stated.
He also noted that it is simply impossible to fully resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war without the participation of representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.
"Someone there has to make a responsible decision," Peskov added, without specifying exactly whom he meant.
The Kremlin spokesman also responded to recent statements from Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
He recently said that during a meeting of Ukrainian, American, and European delegations in Norway, new ideas for a peaceful settlement of the war with Russia had been found.
Stubb also noted that these proposals would be forwarded to the Kremlin for consideration.
"In my experience, peace requires patience, but unfortunately, war does not wait. People die every day. Our task is to do everything possible to put an end to this. And I think today was a step in the right direction," the Finnish president said.
The Kremlin was not particularly pleased with Stubb's latest statements. Peskov responded that repeating the pan-European position on Ukraine "is unlikely to be a constructive contribution to the settlement."
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov responded recently to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's demand for elections.
Russia also unexpectedly admitted its inability to defend itself against all Ukrainian attacks.
