Russia redeploys combat-ready units to resume assaults in Kursk region - Ukrainian Armed Forces
Due to heavy personnel losses, Russia is deploying its 76th Air Assault Division to the Kursk region, with plans to resume offensive assault operations, stated Viktor Kravtsov, the acting head of the communications department of Ukraine’s 82nd Bukovyna Brigade of the Air Assault Forces.
According to Kravtsov, Russian forces are concentrating in the Kursk region, continuously moving up new units.
“It’s known that, due to the losses suffered by Russian marine and airborne units, the 76th Air Assault Division has been redeployed to renew offensive actions. The enemy aims to drive us out of this area as soon as possible. We maintain defense,” he added.
Kravtsov also noted that the enemy is amassing equipment in the region, yet the Defense Forces are effectively destroying it. For instance, 35 or 37 Russian vehicles were destroyed just two days ago.
“Observing the course of combat in both the east and north of our country, it appears that the Russian army is redeploying its most combat-ready and well-trained units specifically to the Kursk region. I believe this helps relieve pressure on the eastern front,” he stated.
Fighting in the Kursk region
In May 2024, Ukrainian intelligence obtained information on Russia's plans to launch an offensive from the Kursk region towards the Sumy direction. The goal of this offensive was to establish a so-called buffer zone along Ukraine’s northern border, which was also seen as an extension of hostile operations targeting the Kharkiv region. In response, Ukraine decided to conduct an offensive operation in the Kursk region.
Over nearly three months of fighting in the Kursk region, Russian forces have lost over 20,000 servicemen. Additionally, 1,101 pieces of Russian military equipment and weaponry have been destroyed.
