Russia preparing for new strikes on Ukraine's energy system - Ukrainian Prime Minister
Russian forces are preparing for new attacks on the Ukrainian energy system. It is likely that Russia will again use missiles and drones, according to a statement from Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a session of the Verkhovna Rada.
Shmyhal emphasized that Russian forces will not allow Ukrainians the "luxury" of living peacefully.
"We understand that the enemy will not grant us the 'luxury' of simply living peacefully. Their terrorist and genocidal policies will continue. We already have intelligence about upcoming massive missile and drone strikes on our energy system," the Prime Minister stated.
At the same time, Shmyhal explained that Ukraine has already lost half of its pre-war electricity consumption, specifically 9 gigawatts.
Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy system
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have committed war crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine. One such crime is the targeting of energy infrastructure across the country, leaving Ukrainians without electricity for hours following these attacks.
The situation significantly worsened this spring when the Russian army carried out large-scale strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities. However, over time, electricity supplies were largely restored, and for a few weeks, power was fully returned to Ukrainians.
Yet, by late summer, the occupiers again targeted energy facilities, resulting in power outages across Ukraine. Currently, scheduled power outages are in effect nationwide. For more details on the impact of these attacks, refer to RBC-Ukraine's report.
