Russia has tasked its forces with capturing several cities in the Donetsk region by the end of April. However, the enemy currently lacks the forces to achieve this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said while speaking to journalists.
What the President was asked
Zelenskyy was asked about the situation on the front line. There is information that Russian troops have been ordered to capture Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka by the end of April.
The President confirmed that such a task does exist. However, he immediately added that they won’t be able to accomplish it.
"But this is impossible — they do not currently have the forces for it. So there is nothing to discuss here," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the enemy constantly shifts deadlines, but the goal remains unchanged — to seize the entire agglomeration of cities (Pokrovsk – Kostiantynivka – Druzhkivka).
"We see the same maps, but different approaches, different timelines," the President explained.
Regarding the situation in the Pokrovsk direction, Zelenskyy described it as difficult, but said Ukrainian forces are holding their positions.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces have deployed an elite drone unit, Rubikon. Drones strike transport every 3–5 minutes, forcing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to switch to robotic systems to deliver ammunition to the front line.
Zelenskyy also previously stated that Vladimir Putin will not stop in Donbas — after that, the targets will be Dnipro and Kharkiv. According to the President, US negotiators still do not fully understand Russia’s real objectives in the war.
