Russia is planning massive strikes on key Ukrainian cities and nuclear facilities to cut them off from the power grid and force Kyiv to make concessions, the Financial Times reports.
According to a statement by the President of Ukraine and an assessment by Ukrainian intelligence, which Ukrainian and European officials shared with the outlet, the main targets of Russian strikes are Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa.
In addition, Ukrainian and European security experts familiar with the intelligence said that Lviv is also included in Russia’s plans.
FT, citing Ukrainian officials, reports that Moscow plans to strike nuclear facilities to disconnect them from the power grid. This would increase pressure on Kyiv to force it to give in to Russia’s demands in early 2027.
Strategy regarding refugees
According to officials, a new flow of refugees toward the EU is also part of Moscow’s strategy. This is increasing concerns that a large influx of Ukrainians could put additional pressure on countries where anti-immigrant sentiment is growing.
In particular, tensions with neighboring Poland have increased this year, leading to a rise in the number of attacks on Ukrainians.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian President ordered an escalation of strikes on Kyiv in order to force Ukrainians to leave the capital.
Russian forces attacked the Southern Bridge in Kyiv again this night. The strikes damaged a bridge support, the roadway and the protective barrier of the metro.
