A Russian GRU agent who may have been planning sabotage using drones and concealed explosives in Poland, as well as in neighboring Lithuania and Germany, has been detained in Poland, Gazeta Wyborcza reports.

The agency says that informed sources close to the prosecutor's office and the Internal Security Agency of Poland have reported on the findings of the investigation into the detained agent Vladislav G., who is believed to have been acting on behalf of the Russian GRU.

According to the investigation, the agent was tasked with obtaining a shovel, digging up tin cans disguised as corn at a local cemetery, and leaving them in a designated location near Łódź. Investigators believe that these cans contained powerful explosives for terrorist attacks using drones.

Operations of this type were probably also being prepared in Lithuania and Germany.

In particular, similar corn cans were found in a cemetery in Lithuania. In addition, Vladislav G. transported components for drones and SIM cards between Lithuania, Poland, and Germany.

If the suspicions are confirmed, the detainee faces life imprisonment. The prosecutor's office plans to complete the investigation by the end of the year.

Russian provocations

On September 10, Russian drones launched a massive attack on Ukraine, and during this attack, about 20 Russian drones flew into Polish territory.

In response, the country scrambled its air force and shot down Russian targets over its territory for the first time during Russia's war against Ukraine.

Unknown drones also invaded the airspace of Denmark and other countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters that the Kremlin is testing Europe's reaction with drone provocations.
