Russia's Ministry of Defense says that Russia has announced a ceasefire for Easter, set to last from April 19 to April 21. However, the so-called Easter ceasefire will only be observed under one condition.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, following a decision by President Vladimir Putin, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov ordered all unit commanders in the zone of the so-called special military operation to cease fire and suspend combat operations ahead of the Orthodox Easter holiday.

The ceasefire is scheduled to last from 6:00 PM Moscow time on April 19 until midnight on April 21.

"The ceasefire regime is being introduced for humanitarian purposes and will be observed by the Russian Joint Group of Forces only if it is reciprocated by the Kyiv regime," the Russian Defense Ministry stated.

Putin's Easter ceasefire

Earlier today, the Russian president announced the Easter ceasefire. According to his statement, Russia was allegedly ready to suspend all combat operations during that time.

The so-called truce was expected to last 30 hours and end at the start of Monday.

Ukraine’s response came from Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD).

"Why for 30 hours, and not an unconditional ceasefire, as we proposed back on March 11?" he asked.

It is worth noting that Putin announced his truce around 4:50 PM Kyiv time. Just 20 minutes later, at 5:10 PM, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv and parts of Ukraine due to the threat of hostile drones.
