Russia needs war, Europe and the world must be ready - Zelenskyy

Russia needs war, and Europe and the world must be prepared for its escalation, according to the Telegram channel of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Russia, in its current state, needs war to maintain power, and it confirms its intent to continue fighting by shelling Ukraine daily," he wrote.
According to the president, this week alone, Russian forces launched nearly 1,220 aerial bombs, over 850 attack drones, and more than 40 missiles of various types in strikes against Ukraine. He stressed that the country needs more air defense systems for protection.
At the same time, Zelenskyy believes that Europe and the world must be better protected from such threats and be prepared to counter them.
"With a strong, united foreign policy and pressure on Putin, who started this war and is now escalating it globally. Together with Europe, the US, and all our partners, we can end this war with a just and lasting peace," he stated.
Russia's war against Ukraine
Earlier, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that Russia has no plans to end the war against Ukraine and is preparing to continue fighting through 2025.
Concerns about threats from Russia to Europe have been growing. In early February, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that NATO countries must prepare for war and increase defense spending. Otherwise, Russia "could attempt something similar to what it has done in Ukraine."
In this context, there has been increasing discussion about raising NATO defense spending as a percentage of GDP. These debates have intensified after US President Donald Trump called on NATO countries to raise their defense budgets to 5% of GDP. As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, NATO will soon discuss increasing defense spending to 3.5% of GDP.
