Russia needs to be stopped in Ukraine - Blinken
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that it is necessary to stop Russia in Ukraine to prevent it from attacking NATO countries, reports CNN.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken believes that Russia could attack NATO countries and provoke a broader conflict that might involve the United States.
Blinken also commended the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU) for their successes on the front.
"They’ve made remarkable progress over the last year and pushing back Russian aggression, taking back more than 50 percent of the territory that was seized since February of 2022," said the Secretary of State.
Blinken suggests that if Congress does not approve the request for assistance to Ukraine, it would be advantageous to three countries.
"The only people who would be happy if the supplemental [budget request] were not voted on and approved by Congress are sitting in Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing," Blinken stated.
What proceeded this
In October 2023, President Joe Biden proposed to Congress a $106 billion budget, with over $60 billion allocated for assistance to Ukraine.
On December 7, Republicans blocked the bill brought for discussion. They are demanding that the White House include proposals for strengthening border security in the request.
President Biden sharply criticized the failure of the vote for aid to Ukraine, calling it a decision based on political extortion.
