A German politician has expressed doubt over the likelihood of a direct clash between Russia and NATO, noting that the balance of power and sober calculation make such a scenario improbable, according to a live broadcast on NTV.

German politician Sahra Wagenknecht stated that Russia is unlikely to attack the North Atlantic Alliance. In her view, the Russian leader is no suicide, fully aware of the balance of forces that makes a direct military confrontation extremely risky.

Balance of power between Russia and NATO

Wagenknecht emphasized that, despite statements about the need to increase armaments and troop numbers, in all categories of conventional weapons, as well as in troop strength, NATO already significantly outmatches Russia. She added that discussions about further military buildup are often misleading and dishonest.

Historical perspective

The politician recalled her earlier statements: just four days before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, on February 20, 2022, Wagenknecht claimed that Russia was not actually interested in invading Ukraine. These remarks underscore her long-standing skepticism toward military scenarios involving NATO.

Meanwhile, in the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian authorities continue using school lessons to frighten high school students with fabricated stories about the horrors of Ukrainian universities, aiming to keep young people under occupation.

At the same time, Russian forces have intensified offensive operations in the Donetsk region, ramping up their eastern front campaign amid the failure of US President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives.
