Russia may not only sabotage cables in Europe. The Kremlin may resort to provocations on the borders of NATO countries, believes the head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak.

According to him, European and NATO countries should consider the risks of hybrid threats on the borders.

“The emergence of DPRK military disguised in Russian uniforms or Iranian proxies on the borders of NATO countries is quite realistic if Russia is not stopped now. The DPRK military is already fighting in Europe. Who could have thought of this before?” Yermak said.

He emphasizes that the shadow fleet, which carries out sabotage against cables in Europe, may not be the only such threat from Russia.

“Impunity breeds permissiveness. This is the moment that requires strong decisions and strong actions,” he said.

Russian sabotage in Europe

Finland recently arrested a ship carrying Russian oil. It is suspected that the vessel caused the shutdown of the Estlink 2 submarine power cable - like Estlink 1, it connects Finland and Estonia - and damaged four Internet lines. After the incident, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that NATO would increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea after the sabotage.

Finland has already said that Russia would continue to pose a threat to European countries even after the war in Ukraine is over. Moscow may use military force against Europe. Politico recently wrote that Russia may try to seize part of Estonia.
