Eighteen North Korean servicemen who attempted to escape from positions in the Kursk region have been detained by Russian forces in the Komaritskyi district of the Bryansk region. They may now be deployed for assault operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to sources in the security services.

It is noted that about 40 military instructors from North Korea, along with around 50 Russian occupiers, were positioned in the forest near Kolyachki in the Khomutovskyi district of the Kursk region.

It has been established that the North Koreans were training Russian Armed Forces personnel on the use of balloons for military purposes. In return, the Russians were instructing North Korean representatives in modern infantry combat tactics, drawing from the experience of the so-called "special military operation."

After completing their training course, the North Korean servicemen were left in the forest area near Kolyachki for several days without food and without instructions regarding their further plans and intentions. On October 14, some of the North Koreans decided to leave their positions in search of Russian command.

Within two days, on October 16, the servicemen who had gone missing from their positions were found and detained by Russian occupiers. The distance from the escape point was approximately 60 kilometers.

According to sources, all 40 North Korean servicemen who were stationed in the Khomutovskyi district have now been relocated to the Lgovskyi district of the Kursk region for further involvement in assault operations in the area.

As a reminder, earlier the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, told the media that by November 1, 2024, approximately 11,000 North Korean military personnel will be prepared to fight in Ukraine.

According to him, the first contingent of 2,600 North Korean soldiers will head to the Kursk region. It remains unclear where the rest will be sent.

Recent data indicates that North Korean soldiers are currently undergoing training in the Far East of Russia, where they are being issued Russian military uniforms.

As stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, these actions effectively signify North Korea's involvement in the war against Ukraine.
