Last night Russia dropped bombs in the very center of Kharkiv. The strikes damaged the State Industry Building (Derzhprom) the exits of one of the metro stations, and a huge crater formed on Svobody Square, not far from the Sukhyi Fountain.

Russia insidiously attacked Kharkiv from airplanes around 3:30 a.m. Kyiv time. First, the Russians hit a 12-storey building in Saltivka with a guided aerial bomb. The building collapsed from the third to the first floor. A small fire broke out, which was quickly extinguished by rescuers. The surrounding houses and cars parked in the yard were also damaged.

25 people were injured, including a 3-month-old baby. The injured are in mild to moderate condition, no serious ones. 6 of them were hospitalized. 30 people, including 4 children, were evacuated from the building. The rubble is still being cleared.

“Rescuers continue the search operation. It was complicated by the constant threats of another Russian attack. That's why we had to temporarily suspend the search operation,” says Yevhen Ivanov, deputy head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.

Russia also struck the Shevchenkivskyi district, located in the city center.

“This is a historic district - the city center, in fact, a densely built-up area. Shops, metro exits, and at least 6 residential high-rise buildings were damaged there,” Ivanov says.

According to the mayor of the city, Ihor Terekhov, Russia struck near a children's supermarket in the center. Local media reported that the Russian bomb hit a huge birch tree near the Antoshka store on Naukova Street.

Nearby metro exits were heavily damaged. The Naukova station, which is literally under the site of the explosion, survived, but all the ground exits of the subway were damaged - 2 of them very badly, Terekhov said.

A McDonald's is located right next to the metro exit and was also damaged. The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration showed what the fast food restaurant looks like now.

Also, one of the Russian bombs hit a park on Svobody Square in Kharkiv. It hit the ground near the Sukhyi fountain in the square between the buildings of Kharkiv University. The fountain itself remained unharmed.

Russia struck Derzhprom once again. A historic building, a symbol of the city of Kharkiv suffered significant damage.

Hundreds of windows in the building were blown out by the blast wave.

Russia's shelling also partially damaged a New Year's decoration that was installed in the city center just yesterday.

According to local media, only yesterday they finished installing the New Year's lighting in the square and turned on the installation - a giant luminous Santa Claus figure - for testing purposes. At the same time, Santa had already been hit before and was restored. This time, a Russian bomb fell a few meters from the installation.

Russia's night attack on Ukraine

On the night of November 8, Russian troops also attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile, four Kh-59/69 guided missiles, 92 Shaheds, and unidentified drones.

In total, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down four Kh-59/69 missiles and 62 Shaheds, and 26 more drones were lost in different regions of Ukraine.

The nighttime Russian attack resulted in casualties and damage to civilian homes and property in Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
