Russia has launched another disinformation campaign aimed at accusing Ukraine of crimes committed by Russia itself in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, according to Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
According to the Center, a Russian propaganda entity calling itself an International Public Tribunal released a so-called report on the alleged "genocide" and "crimes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces" in Pokrovsk.
Behind the loud accusations lies a familiar propaganda toolkit: a fictitious "tribunal" with no international or legal status, statements from Russian officials representing the criminal Putin regime, and a complete lack of independent evidence.
Representatives of the tribunal cynically claim that Ukraine’s leadership allegedly sanctioned a "scorched earth tactic" in Pokrovsk.
"However, these words perfectly describe Russia’s own actions. Over more than a year of fierce fighting for Pokrovsk, the army of the aggressor state has almost completely destroyed the city, killing its residents," the Center stressed.
The Center emphasized that the purpose of this campaign is obvious: the Kremlin is trying to shift responsibility for its own war crimes in Pokrovsk onto Ukraine.
Fighting in Pokrovsk
Russian forces continue attempts to seize Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. They are trying to break into the northern part of the city, which remains under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
Earlier, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that Russian forces are moving reserves toward Pokrovsk.
The enemy is using a tactic of sporadic large-scale assaults combined with covert advances by small infantry groups.
According to recent assessments by the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian units have achieved tactical successes in the Kupiansk and Pokrovsk directions.
