During the night of October 28, Russia launched 100 strike drones of the Shahed type, as well as unspecified drones, against Ukraine. The air defense successfully destroyed 66 drones, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The enemy launched drones from the directions of the Russian cities of Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The following were involved in repelling the attack:

  • Anti-aircraft missile troops
  • Aviation
  • Electronic warfare units
  • Mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As of 10:30 AM Kyiv time, the destruction of 66 drones has been confirmed in the following regions:

  • Kyiv
  • Sumy
  • Kharkiv
  • Chernihiv
  • Poltava, among several other areas.

Most drones were shot down in Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

In particular, 24 drones were lost in location, while another four flew towards Russia and Belarus.

"Unfortunately, there were several hits of drones on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine," the Air Force added.

Shelling of Ukraine

Since the onset of Russia's full-scale aggression, the shelling of Ukrainian cities and villages has become a daily reality, causing significant destruction and threats to the civilian population. Russian troops are using a wide range of weapons, including missiles, guided bombs, and kamikaze drones, including those of Iranian manufacture. Recently, the frequency of drone attacks has notably increased, occurring almost every night.

According to Oleksandr Lytvynenko, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), Russia may resume massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the near future, potentially coinciding with the start of the heating season.
