Russia launches drone and missile attack on Ukraine: Air defense response
Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine on the night of May 26. However, the air defense managed to shoot down all enemy drones and 12 out of 14 missiles, except for the Kinzhals, according to the Telegram channel of Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk.
According to him, as a result of the air battle, air defense missile units, fighter aircraft, electronic warfare systems of the Air Force, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine shot down:
- 12 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles;
- 31 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs.
The aerial targets were destroyed in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, and Chernihiv regions according to the general.
What Russia used
On the night of May 26, Russian occupiers launched a missile and air strike on Ukraine, using 14 air-launched missiles and over three dozen strike UAVs, including:
- two Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from MiG-31K aircraft (launched from the airspace of Russia's Tambov region);
- 12 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic aviation aircraft (launched from Russia's Saratov region);
- 31 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs (launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Yeysk in Russia, and Cape Chauda in Crimea).
Russian shelling of Ukraine
On the night of May 26, Russian forces again launched a massive attack on Ukraine. The air raid alert covered the entire country as the Russians deployed MiG-31Ks, which launched Kinzhals. The occupiers also attacked Ukraine with Shaheds.
In the Vinnytsia region, three people were injured in Zhmerynka due to falling debris of an enemy drone. Additionally, Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi region experienced a power outage.
