Russia launches ballistic missile and drone attack on Ukraine
Russia attacked Ukraine on the night of October 11 with one ballistic missile, a Kh-31P missile, and 66 drones. Air Defense shot down 29 Russian UAVs, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
"On the night of October 11, the enemy attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M ballistic missile (launched from temporarily occupied Crimea), a Kh-31P guided aviation missile (from the airspace over the Black Sea), and 66 strike drones (launched from the Kursk region)," the statement said.
How air defense responded
Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces were involved in repelling the air attack.
"As of 11:00 a.m., 29 enemy UAVs were shot down as a result of the air battle in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Zhytomyr regions," the military reported.
Additionally, 31 enemy drones were locally lost in various regions of Ukraine, likely due to active electronic warfare countermeasures.
"Two strike UAVs returned towards Russia. Four UAVs remain in the airspace of Ukraine. Combat operations are ongoing," the Air Force confirmed.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
Russian troops attack Ukraine every day. Often these attacks are combined with the use of missiles and drones.
Starting at 3:00 a.m., an air alert was declared in Ukraine several times due to the threat of drones and ballistics. Air defense systems were operating in the Kyiv region and in Kyiv.
In particular, the Russian army again tried to attack Kyiv with drones. The air alert in the capital lasted more than three hours. UAVs were entering the city from different directions. The air defense system destroyed all the UAVs flying towards Kyiv.
In addition, Russian troops attacked the Odesa region with ballistic missiles. Four people were killed and 10 people were injured.
