Russian forces struck the Kherson thermal power plant with about 100 missiles, inflicting severe damage. Restoring the facility will be extremely challenging, leaving thousands of residents without heat, reports Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.

He said roughly 100 Russian missiles hit the thermal power plant, and the facility sustained significant destruction. Currently, more than 40,000 subscribers remain without electricity and heating due to the Russian attacks.

The number of people actually living without heat and electricity is lower, since only about 25% of apartments are occupied. Local authorities are seeking ways to provide at least decentralized heating.

"We have also reached out to charitable organizations. The city administration still has a supply of space heaters, and Naftogaz has stepped in to assist Kherson residents, providing electric heaters to apartments without heat so people can get through this winter. At the same time, we have not given up hope of restoring the thermal power plant. We will do everything necessary to achieve this," Tolokonnikov said.

According to Naftogaz, on December 3, Russian troops carried out another targeted strike on the Kherson thermal power plant, effectively destroying the station and halting its operations.

The Regional Military Administration reports that the shutdown has left 470 buildings and 40,500 residents without heat and electricity. Authorities are exploring alternative ways to restore heating to the affected homes.
