Russia launches 89 drones on Ukraine: Air Defense work unveiled
Russian forces launched 89 drones at Ukraine. Air defense shot down 36 drones, while another 48 were lost to electronic countermeasures, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
"During the night of November 27, the enemy attacked Ukraine with 89 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and drones of an unidentified type," the statement reads.
The drones were launched from directions including Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
How air defense responded
Aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Ukraine's Defense Forces were involved in repelling the attack.
"As of 9:00 AM Kyiv time, air defense had shot down 36 enemy drones in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Mykolaiv regions," the Air Force noted.
Additionally, 48 drones were lost due to active electronic warfare measures by the Defense Forces, and five drones exited controlled airspace toward Belarus, Russia, and temporarily occupied territories.
Russia's attack on Ukraine
During the night, air raid alarms sounded multiple times in Kyiv. Explosions were heard in the capital, and air defense systems were active in the Kyiv region. The military had warned of threats posed by Russian drones.
Later, it was revealed that Russia had attempted yet another drone attack on Kyiv during the night of November 27. As a result of falling UAV debris, a building was damaged, and two people were injured.
It’s worth noting that on the night of November 26, Russian forces launched a record number of drones in Ukraine. Air defense managed to shoot down 76 out of 188 UAVs.
