Russia launched drone strikes on Ukraine during the day on October 14. Ukrainian air defenses shot down more than 100 drones, according to Yurii Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
Drone attack on Ukraine
Russia once again attacked Ukraine with drones during the day.
"From around 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., approximately 145 such drones were detected, and around 70 of them were jet-powered, meaning slightly less than half," he said.
According to him, as of 6:00 p.m., drones powered by internal combustion engines predominated in the air.
"As a result of combat operations, by 6:00 p.m., more than 100 UAVs that attacked during the day had been shot down," Ihnat said.
Russia's tactics
Ihnat emphasized that despite the high drone interception rate, even a small number of drones reaching their targets can cause significant damage.
According to him, Russian forces combine different types of drones and missiles in an attempt to complicate the work of Ukrainian air defenses.
To modify the capabilities and flight range of jet-powered UAVs, Russian forces can adjust:
-
Fuel capacity,
-
Warheads,
-
Additional equipment.
"The enemy is already experimenting with whether to put more fuel into the same jet-powered UAV or install a larger warhead. Perhaps some other payload, such as cameras, network transmitters, and so on, modems," Ihnat clarified.
However, Ukrainian specialists are examining recovered drones to identify the enemy's technical "tricks."
On the night of October 14, Russia launched another massive combined attack on various regions of Ukraine. In total, Russian forces used 167 aerial attack weapons.
In addition, on the night of October 13, Russia launched one missile and 121 drones at Ukraine. Some of the targets were shot down by morning.
