Russia launched record number of drones at Ukraine in October 2024
In October 2024, Russia launched 2,023 drones at Ukraine. This was a record number for the current year, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During October 2024, Russians launched 2,023 attack drones and unidentified drones. Among them:
- 1,185 were destroyed or suppressed by the Ukrainian military;
- 738 were lost in the field;
- 29 left the controlled airspace of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of 2024, Russia has launched a total of 6,987 drones. Russians mostly attacked civilian and critical infrastructure of Ukraine.
“Thanks to the professionalism and skill of the servicemen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, thousands of lives of Ukrainian people were saved from Russian air terror, hundreds of homes of Ukrainian citizens and important state facilities were saved from destruction,” Ukraine's General Staff adds.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, daily shelling of Ukrainian cities and villages has become a regular threat, causing destruction and endangering civilians. Russians are actively using various types of weapons, including missiles, guided aerial bombs, and kamikaze drones. Recently, the frequency of attacks using drones has increased, with drones being sent to Ukrainian territory almost every night.
On the night of November 1, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with:
- 3 Kh-59/69 type guided missiles from the airspace of the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region;
- 48 unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed, as well as drones of unspecified type.
As of 8 a.m. Kyiv time, 31 drones have been confirmed downed. Another 14 drones lost contact, and 3 changed course and headed toward Belarus.
