Russia launched ballistic missiles and 22 drones at Ukraine: Air defense operation report
On the night of October 9, Russian forces launched three ballistic missiles and 22 drones at Ukraine. The country's air defense shot down 21 drones, while one returned to Russia, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
"On the night of October 9, 2024, the enemy attacked the Poltava region with three Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the Kursk region, as well as 22 strike UAVs from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Cape Chauda," the report says.
Air defense response
The defense effort included aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups from the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces.
"As a result of the air battle, 21 enemy drones were shot down in the Odesa, Vinnytsia, and Kyiv regions. Another strike drone returned in the direction of Russia," the Air Force added.
Russian attack on Ukraine
Russian forces launched strike drones, likely of the Shahed type, over Ukraine late on October 8. Air raid alerts were announced in several regions due to the threat of enemy attacks.
In particular, kamikaze drones were spotted in the Kyiv region, where air defense systems were active.
Additionally, late at night, the occupiers targeted the Poltava region with ballistic missiles. Despite explosions in Poltava and Kremenchuk, no civilian infrastructure was hit.
