Russia launched 29 Shaheds and 13 missiles at night: Air defense operation report
On the night of September 4, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using dozens of Shahed-131/136 drones and 13 missiles. Ukraine's air defense managed to intercept 29 airborne targets, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force.
In total, Russia launched 42 airborne targets, including:
- 2 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from MiG-31K aircraft from the airspace over Russia's Tula region;
- 2 Kh-22 cruise missiles from Tu-22M3 aircraft over the Black Sea;
- 6 Kh-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft over Russia's Volgograd region;
- 3 Iskander-K cruise missiles from the occupied Crimean territory;
- 29 Shahed-131/136 drones from Russia's Kursk region.
To repel the attack, Ukraine deployed aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups from both the Air Force and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
During the attack, 29 targets were successfully shot down, including:
- 4 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 3 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
- 22 Shahed-131/136 drones.
Six other drones were lost in action, and one flew into Belarus.
Air defenses were active in the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Volyn, Ternopil, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, and Sumy regions during the night.
Massive shelling of Ukraine on the night of September 4
The overnight Russian shelling involved both missiles and drones, as mentioned earlier. Before the attack, Russian forces deployed Tu-22M3 and MiG-31K aircraft.
In Lviv, terrorists targeted two districts of the city, resulting in the deaths of seven people.
Explosions were also reported in Kryvyi Rih, where Russian forces struck a civilian infrastructure facility in the city center, destroying the building from the first to the third floor.
