Russia launches 99 drones at Ukraine: Most shot down
On the night of January 22, Russian forces launched 99 drones towards Ukraine from six different directions. The Ukrainian air defense forces shot down most of the enemy UAVs, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
During the night, Russian troops launched drones from six directions: Chayuda (Crimea), Millerovo, Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia).
By 10:00 a.m. Kyiv time, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the downing of 65 drones. Air defense units worked in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.
Another 30 enemy decoy drones were lost locally (without any negative consequences).
The Ukrainian Air Force noted that the night attack damaged facilities, industrial enterprises, outbuildings, private homes, and apartment buildings in the Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
Additional consequences of attack
On the evening of January 21, Russian forces struck a residential area in the city of Sumy with a drone. The attack caused damage to homes and resulted in a fire.
In addition, the Russian army targeted Mykolaiv with a UAV on January 21. The attack partially destroyed one floor of an apartment building and caused damage to other residential infrastructure.
In the Kyiv region, power lines and buildings were damaged due to fallen debris from downed drones.
