'Russia is killing peaceful Ukrainians with Iranian drones': Israel's envoy tells Lavrov off at UN
Russia is collaborating with Iran, a recognized sponsor of terrorism, and reportedly using Iranian drones to kill peaceful Ukrainians, according to Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, during a UN Security Council meeting.
"As we all know, Iranian drones are being used by Russia to kill civilians in Ukraine. Iranian terror will reach all of us, each of us knows this. Even Russia, which is cooperating with Iran," said Israel's representative.
Erdan's statement was a response to accusations by Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, against the West, alleging that it is pushing for the continuation of the war with Russia by supplying weapons to Ukraine.
According to the Russian official, to "establish justice," Western countries should stop assisting Ukraine.
Representatives of governments from over 40 countries have condemned the hypocrisy of Russia in the UN Security Council.
Iran supplies drones to Russia
Russia actively utilizes Iranian Shahed drones for attacks on Ukrainian territory. Initially, both countries denied their cooperation despite numerous pieces of evidence, but in November 2022, Tehran changed its stance and acknowledged its involvement.
Last month, Russia received another batch of Iranian kamikaze drones. In total, the aggressor country acquired 250 Shaheds.
The European Union decided to impose new restrictions on Iran for supplying drones to Russia. The sanctions list includes Iranian military personnel, businessmen, and companies.
Prior to this development, Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, denied supplying any drones or missiles used against Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
