Russia increased the number of attacks in eastern Ukraine in April. However, it managed to achieve small successes in the area of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
According to the report, in April 2024, Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine increased by 17% compared to March 2024. More than three-quarters of them were in the areas of Avdiivka, Chasiv Yar, and Maryinka.
At the same time, attacks near Chasovyi Yar increased by 200% from March to April.
"Despite the substantial increase in attacks on this axis, Russia made only minor tactical gains in the area during April and almost certainly sustained heavy losses," the UK intelligence report says.

Fighting near Chasiv Yar
After capturing Avdiivka, the Russians also intensified their attacks in the Bakhmut direction, particularly in the area of Chasiv Yar. According to local authorities, the fighting has already reached the city limits.
According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian occupants have concentrated up to 25,000 soldiers in the area of Chasiv Yar. The Ukrainian military also notes that the Russians will not be able to advance to Kramatorsk without controlling Chasiv Yar.
The head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration also expressed the opinion that the capture of the city would give the invaders an opportunity to advance deeper into Ukraine, so the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding back the Russian troops.
