Russia holds ground, situation remains dire: Ukrainian elite brigade on Avdiivka direction
The situation in the Avdiivka direction remains extremely challenging. Despite numerous losses, Russian forces are not retreating, according to the Telegram of the Third Separate Assault Brigade.
"After leaving Avdiivka and liberating the village of Krasnohorivka, the Third Separate Assault Brigade continues to destroy the enemy in the Avdiivka direction," the message says.
As of now, the brigade's units have:
- Eliminated over 500 occupiers.
- Destroyed up to 20 enemy armored vehicles and tanks.
- Neutralized anti-aircraft missile systems, artillery systems, self-propelled artillery units, and a significant amount of Russian automotive equipment.
"Indeed, the enemy has suffered critical losses at the regimental level, but the overwhelmingly numerous Russian Armed Forces are not retreating. The combat situation remains extremely challenging," added the brigade.
They also noted that despite the tense situation, the Third Assault Brigade continues to decimate enemy infantry, repel attacks, and prevent the occupiers from breaking through the occupied defenses in the Avdiivka direction.
Avdiivka direction situation
Recently, Ukrainian defenders had to withdraw from Avdiivka, the defense of which had been ongoing since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
As Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba noted, if allies had provided our military with ammunition on time, there would have been no need to retreat from Avdiivka.
Afterward, control over several villages in the area was lost.
Last week, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian occupiers were stuck in the Avdiivka area and could not advance further. Their main efforts are concentrated in the area of Novomykhailivka.
As reported by The New York Times, Russia's advance around Avdiivka is slowing down after rapid successes. Ukraine has deployed significant forces to defend this area, while Russian forces are attacking in open fields with little cover.
