On the night of Wednesday, October 22, the Russian army launched 433 aerial targets against Ukraine. The enemy used Shaheds, Kinzhals, ballistic and cruise missiles for the strike, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
According to the Air Force, Ukrainian radio engineering troops detected and tracked 433 aerial attack assets — 405 drones and 28 missiles, including 15 ballistic ones.
In particular, the Russians launched:
-
405 Shahed, Geran, and other strike UAVs from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Chauda (occupied Crimea);
-
11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
-
9 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
-
4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles;
-
4 Kh-59/69 guided air missiles.
The main direction of the strike was the Kyiv region, but Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions were also targeted.
To repel the air attack, the Ukrainian Defense Forces deployed aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and drone systems.
As of 12:30 p.m. local time, Ukrainian air defense shot down or neutralized 349 aerial targets, including:
-
333 Shahed and other kamikaze drones;
-
8 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
-
6 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
-
2 Kh-59/69 guided missiles.
Despite the high effectiveness of air defense, there were direct hits from 12 missiles and 55 drones on 26 locations. In 19 other places, debris from downed targets was recorded.
Additionally, 17 drones did not reach their targets — their routes are currently being clarified.
Attack on October 22
Last night, Russia once again carried out a massive strike on Ukraine using missiles and attack drones. Several districts of Kyiv came under fire.
In the Kyiv region, the consequences of the attack were also tragic: in the Brovary district, four people were killed, including two children. Two more people were injured. Search and rescue operations continue at the scene.
Following the strike, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha appealed to international partners for an immediate response. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that any Russian talk of diplomacy has no value until its leadership feels the real consequences of its aggression.
